                                                   About the Founder

My name is Ryan Schwertfeger and I am a teenage resident of Oakland, NJ. I have a passon for politics, and especially elections, which led me to form Public Opinion Polls for Oakland, NJ.

With a major election in 2010 for our country and our local government, I decided to create my own poll to ask Oakland residents their opinions about local and national issues. While it took about 4 days to get 100 people, I found polling to be fun, informative, and I decided to do it again. Now, as Public Opinion Polls for Oakland, NJ enters its third and last year in existence, I've seen how much influence local polling has had on the town of Oakland and I'm curious to see where this interesting hobby and service to the people of Oakland leads me.

To help accomplish my mission, please tell your fellow Oaklanders about this website, as well as this project, so that the town as a whole can be involved in expressing their opinion more openly. I originally tried getting the results in the Suburban News and The Record to no recent avail. By posting or sharing links to poll results, it will help me out greatly and maybe catch the attention of another Oaklander who otherwise would not have known about my project.

     About the Website

If you're not sure where to start, or if you aren't a computer savvy person, here is a quick way to find out what you're looking for. On this website, you can find polls that have been completed by clicking "Polls". There you can look at the questions I asked, the poll answers, how many people chose each answer, and other information such as the margin of error and the dates the poll was taken. Under the "News" category, you can be notified of when a poll will be coming out or starting and shocking results of polls as well. You can also see interesting analysis and recent stories by visiting the News section. Under Events, you can find out when and where I will conduct a poll next as well as seeing the next big dates in Oakland politics such as Election Day, a debate, or a meet and greet.

Please tell your fellow Oaklanders about this website, as well as this project, so that the town as a whole can be involved in expressing their opinion more openly. I originally tried getting the results in the Suburban News and The Record to no recent avail. By spreading the word of this website through word of mouth, facebook, and even editorials; the mission I am trying to accomplish can be done. By posting or sharing links to poll results, it will help me out greatly and maybe catch the attention of another Oaklander who otherwise would not have known about my project.

Thank you for your interest and I hope that this project will only benefit the town and elections that we have in it.

Other Endeavors, Projects, and Accomplishments

Besides polling local townspeople, I am active with other issues in town and in my school. I have been involved in my high school's class' government and was elected Secretary my Sophomore year.

I have also spearheaded and effort to get a dog park for our town, which I started in 2008 as my 8th grade project in Valley Middle School.

Significant efforts are currently underway to make the Pleasureland area into a new, passive recreation park called Great White Oak Park and as of right now, a dog park is part of the master plan. To contact me about the dog park, email me your questions and comments at [email protected] You can also help support the movement for an Oakland Dog Park by liking the idea on facebook by clicking here. In addition, you can also become friends with my dog, Scooby (in picture), on facebook by clicking the link below. Scooby is also an official therapy dog and he has made trips to the Oakland Care Center and the Oakland Public Library! Now, Scooby can help serve his community, too!
